Week 12

Last day for NMD 302

We had a presentation today, each of us talked about their role in the TedX project. How the project can be better and also what we had learned from this unit.

I think this unit took us out of the classroom, practice work in real work situation. Communication was very important within the team, it is more easy to carry out better result.

At the end, this year TedX project was a lot more better than last year. For example, the lighting, camera framing and audio. However, a few issues are need to improvement. Learn from mistakes and avoid it happen again. The project will get better year after year.

Week 10

This week we continues to work on our TedX video post production

We found some breath take noise in between the sentences of the presenters

I had try to de-breath within audio of 16 presenters, i would say there were 80% had been cleaned up but still, some of the breath take noise were still there because too much silent gaps in-betweem sentences that it will make audio sound un-natural. For example, if one or two seconds had been silent and no ambient as background, it will make the final production sounds un-natural.

All the trimmed audio had been in a a folder named “TedX Audio” within Mudlark – Share Folder

We will review all the video on next thursday in class with Jason

Week 9

Post production editing this week

This week Eric is not in class because of the operation he had, so he had to take some rest at home

But it didn’t effect the progress of the post production stage

Some of footage had been disappeared but lucky we have recorded the entire 4 sessions from ATEM machine

Four sessions in total of TedX. 19 presenters. In our team, each of us will have at least three presenters to edit, some of us have four presenters to edit

Import ATEM video clip into Final Cut Pro, place Camera 3 which is stage camera on the top of ATEM footage to cover up all the camera movement within ATEM footage.

I had spend three hours in class to finish the editing. First step to edit is to sync up the audio, as soon as audio is sync, turn down camera 3 audio, use ATEM audio that wouldn’t be a problem for the rest of editing

Week 8 Ted X

8 of September which Ted X will be showing

We spend two days to set up the scene, audio, lighting, camera position and wiring to ATEM mixer, each camera operator has a headset and communication device to able hear and communicate with director instructions.

Lighting for stage was an issue to camera, because spot lights were not pointing downwards to presenter, it was pointing straight across from far back of the hall to the presenter, presenter’s shadow projected on the the white screen background which on the stage.

Later we brought more lights from Building 11 find art/photography studio. Moved those spot lights to front of the hall on both sides pointing 35 degrees angle to stage. Bounce light up to ceiling created a soft neutral tone and not too harsh to presenter’s eye.

On Saturday, the entire show went under controller, not much of mistakes had been made and the time schedule were on time.

Post production will be take place next week

Week 6

This week we covered all the details for Tedx Darwin again just to make sure filming crew know their roles for the day. Troy and Bismarck are going to give directions through communication headset, myself and the rest of the crew will switch camera position after each session. In total it has 4 sessions for Tedx.

Muti-Cam Editing Tutorial:

Archive audio in sync is to follow the clap board sound that Eric had done that on stage for us. In this case we have three different cameras angles to record presenter, as well as three different audio track. Find the clap board sound in first audio track, the sound waveform will the starting point to sync audio, repeat same step as the other two audio tracks.

This week we were at the Blue building 1 which TedX going to be locate. We brought all the gears  includes three video cameras, wireless microphones which go through audio mixer sync to video, format for video is 720p.

Speaker microphone are going through mixer then to camera, Microphone should be clip on the shirt around neck area

Camera White Balance are important and match with other two camera which are filming at the same time. There has two option to choose from 3200k and 5600k. For indoors usually 5600k but depends on the light which had been set for the stage in this case white balance might be vary.

TedX is the project which we are going to record. live video mixing and post production will be involved in this unit

We went to Building 1 Blue to have a look the location where we should place camera and set up for live video mixing. We are using three JVC Camcorder Camera, each camera will under different angles  and framing, for example close shoot of presenter, medium shoot and a wide shoot on stage frame presenter on side and also point to audiences.

TedX is a growing popular event for people who had an idea to talk about in front of audiences. each of them should have 15-mins to talk on stage.
